The Northwest Territories Flying Association (NWTFA) encourages visitors participating in the Yellowknife Bush Pilot Fly-In to enjoy the many attractions, activities and amenities available in our northern city so the Fly-In schedule allows time for exploration.  A selection of popular experiences and excursions is offered below.  Detailed tourism information can be found through Spectacular Northwest Territories and Extraordinary Yellowknife.

​Events and Activities

​​Dance in the sand under the midnight sun!  The annual Folk on the Rocks music festival is scheduled for July 18 to 20, 2025.  Tickets are available online and should be purchased in advance.

Take a flightseeing tour in an Ahmic Air Beaver floatplane.  Yellowknife city tours, wilderness tours, and fly-out fishing day-trips are available.

Golf on the sand course at the Yellowknife Golf Club.  Hit off an astro-turf mat but watch out for ravens stealing your golf balls.

Sandblast your own souvenir glassware at Old Town Glassworks using recycled bottles and stencils featuring northern motifs.  Two-hour workshops can be booked online.

Visit Fireweed Studio to shop for local arts and crafts.  This seasonal shop is operated by the Yellowknife Guild of Arts and Crafts.  Expect to find pottery, weaving, fibre arts and more.

Aviation History and Museums

The Yellowknife Historical Museum celebrates the rich history of Yellowknife through both an indoor gallery and outdoor exhibits.  Explore the exhibits and enjoy lunch in the cafe or outside on the deck.

Visit the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre to learn about the unique  culture and history of the Northwest Territories.  Exhibits include a De Havilland Fox Moth restored from aircraft that crashed in the Northwest Territories.

Join a hangar tour and explore fascinating displays of aviation artifacts in the former passenger terminal at Buffalo Airways.  Hangar tours showcase the aircraft operated by Buffalo Airways as featured on the popular "Ice Pilots" television series.
