 | It is with much sadness that we report that Jean Piro passed away on January 31, 2017 at age 93. Jean was a longtime member of the Northwest Territories Floatplane Association and never missed a social event. Although not a pilot herself, her interest in aviation stemmed from her late husband Mike’s passion for flying. Jean was always a top contender at the NWTFA annual Chili Cook-Off, taking first prize numerous times. “It’s all about the beans”, she would claim, but to our knowledge, she never revealed the recipe. As the Piro matriarch, she gathered the family together to host a pancake breakfast at every Midnight Sun Fly-in, feeding legions of hungry visitors at the Wardair dock year after year. Our condolences go out to sons, Gordon and Brian, and daughters, Lorie and Sandra. We too, will miss Jean’s presence but will always remember the time we shared and be grateful to have known her. |
