CEK7 - footner lake (High Level, AB)
* As of April 2023, CEK7 is listed in the Canadian Water Aerodrome Supplement as a closed aerodrome and anecdotal reports indicate that fuel may no longer be available on the water at Footner Lake.
Footner Lake is located immediately west of the CYOJ airport in High Level, AB. Temporary beaching for floatplanes is available near a dock on the southeast side of the lake. A sand/gravel ramp adjacent to the dock is easily accessible without obstructions, providing for convenient refueling or stopover. The dock itself may be unsuitable for floatplane use due to water levels and its height.
Fuel (100LL and Jet-A) is available at Footner Lake by call-out from the CYOJ airport. The fuel truck will be dispatched on request to CYOJ radio on arrival or by contacting the operator by cell phone upon arrival. Fuel operators are Flight Fuels LP — Footner Aviation (780-926-3700) and Swan Aeromotive (780-926-3607). Fuel trucks cannot drive onto the dock but will dispense fuel using grounded fuel hose.
Flying distance from Footner Lake to Yellowknife, assuming direct flight from Footner Lake to Hay River and diversion to follow the western shoreline of Great Slave Lake from Hay River to Yellowknife, is approximately 250 nautical miles. NWTFA members who utilized the Footner Lake waterdrome in August 2017 recommend it as an efficient and convenient refuelling stop.
