Pilots are encouraged to undertake careful flight planning prior to embarking on their trip to the Northwest Territories. This page provides numerous resources intended to assist with such planning. yellowknife airport (cyzf)
The Yellowknife (CYZF) airport and its surrounding airport community offers a variety of aviation services for pilots, air passengers, charter services, and cargo. Air traffic control services and flight services are provided by NAV CANADA. Airspace is Class D from 7 am to 10 pm and Class E from 10 pm to 7am. Parking for general aviation aircraft is available on taxiway KILO.

YELLOWKNIFE water AEROdrome (CEN9)
The Yellowknife CEN9 water aerodrome comprises Back Bay and East Bay. Pilots must advise the CYZF tower prior to operations on either bay. The strobe light on Pilot's Monument must be activated to alert boats when aircraft are arriving or departing the waterdrome. The CYZF tower will provide the wind direction at the airport. Pilots should assess prevailing conditions and advise of intended take-off or landing direction. Upon landing, pilots must report down and clear.

WEATHER conditions and forecasts
Aviation weather services in the Northwest Territories are provided by NAV CANADA. Aviation weather information is available online through the NAV CANADA Aviation Weather Web Site (AWWS). Flight Information Centres (FIC) also offer interpretive pilot briefing services (PBS).

FOREST FIRE conditions and restrictions
Forest fire activity is common in the Northwest Territories from June through September. Wildland fire updates are issued as the fire situation and conditions in the Northwest Territories require and are posted online at NWT Fire Updates and the NWT FIRE Facebook page. Aircraft operation is restricted near fire activity and NOTAM's may be issued to support suppression efforts.

availability of 100LL av Gas
100LL av gas is available in Yellowknife both at the CYZF airport and from several local suppliers. Wheel and amphibious aircraft can be refueled through Shell at the CYZF airport and floatplanes can be refueled at the Ahmic Air floatbase. Av gas is also available in drums or bulk from other suppliers. Pilots should confirm availability in advance and expect prices to be higher than in southern locations.

yellowknife summer water multi-use areas
Lakes in the Yellowknife area offer many commercial and recreational opportunities for residents and visitors during open-water months. Water areas are shared by users of floatplanes, sailboats, power boats, personal watercraft, canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and more. All users have a shared responsibility for the safety of themselves and others. Exercise caution and situational awareness at all times to avoid and manage potential conflict with other users.
