AVAILABILITY OF 100ll AVGAS

100LL avgas is available in Yellowknife from several local suppliers.  During the open water season, floatplanes can be refueled at the Ahmic Air floatbase.  Wheel and amphibious aircraft should make advance arrangements for fuel since Det'on Cho Logistics Shell, which is the FBO operator at the CYZF airport, does not currently provide 100LL refueling for general aviation aircraft.  Pilots should confirm availability in advance and expect prices to be higher than in southern locations.

NWTFA confirmed 100LL availability during the 2024 float season as follows:
  • Ahmic Air sells bulk 100LL avgas to NWTFA members and visiting pilots.  Availability is subject to the operating needs of Ahmic Air and should be confirmed in advance.  Fuel can be pumped into tidy tanks or directly into floatplane fuel tanks at the seasonal floatbase.  Advance arrangements can be made for refueling at the YZF airport.    Price varies due to ongoing fluctuations in fuel costs but is competitive.  Pilots should call ahead to arrange for fuel.  Summer hours are 7 days per week from 9 am to 5 pm but pilots are asked to avoid peak times on Friday and Sunday afternoons and evenings. 
  • Fuel Flo Petroleum & Logistics has 100LL avgas available in drums which can be delivered to the YZF airport for transfer into aircraft. 

A NOTAM effective until at least January 29, 2025 advises that 100LL avgas is not currently available at the CYZF airport.  This NOTAM is filed by Det'on Cho Logistics Shell as the local FBO operator and results from its loss of a fuel truck in December 2023.  Det'on Cho Logistics Shell and the YZF airport have advised that there are no plans for future resumption of direct-to-aircraft 100LL refuelling.  Refer to our advocacy page respecting availability of avgas for more information and possible alternatives.
