AVAILABILITY OF 100ll AVGAS

Into-wing commercial refuelling service for 100LL avgas is temporarily unavailable at the Yellowknife (CYZF) airport due to the loss of a fuel truck in December 2023.  A NOTAM is therefore currently in effect advising that 100LL avgas is not available at the CYZF airport.   Notwithstanding the NOTAM, 100LL avgas remains available in Yellowknife through advance arrangement with a local supplier.

General aviation pilots are encouraged to consider the following options when planning flights to and from the Yellowknife area:  (Information current as of April 21, 2025; updates will be posted as circumstances improve.)

  • General aviation pilots flying aircraft on wheels into and out of CYZF are encouraged to refer to the Canada Flight Supplement under CYZF for the latest status.  Commercial airside 100LL avgas transfer is currently unavailable with no anticipated restoration date.
  • Pilots operating aircraft on wheels with portable fuel transfer capabilities may contact Fuel Flo Petroleum & Logistics at 867-873-8999 or 867-446-3835 (after-hours) to arrange for 100LL avgas.  Sealed drums can be dropped off at CYZF near the general aviation parking area.  Pilots are encouraged to make arrangements well in advance.
  • Bulk 100LL avgas for aircraft on floats is available from Ahmic Air and can be pumped into tidy tanks or directly into floatplane fuel tanks at the seasonal floatbase.  Availability is subject to the operating needs of Ahmic Air.  Price varies due to ongoing fluctuations in fuel costs but is competitive.  Business hours during float season (early June to mid-October) are 9 am to 5 pm daily including weekends and holidays.  Pilots should contact Ahmic Air in advance so as to avoid peak times and minimize impact on charter operations. Coordinates and further details are contained in the Canada Water Aerodrome Supplement under CEN9.
  • The Hay River (CYHY) airport offers full service 100LL avgas on a 24/7 basis through its local distributor (Bassett Petroleum at 867-874-1004).  Regular hours are 8 pm to 5 pm and afterhours/weekend callout fees apply.  Hay River is located 108 nautical miles to the south of Yellowknife on the southern shore of Great Slave Lake.

NWTFA is working with local distributors and CYZF airport management to restore airside into-wing100LL avgas service as soon as possible.  Refer to our advocacy page respecting availability of avgas for information on NWTFA efforts to facilitate a solution.
