AVAILABILITY OF 100ll AVGAS

The Canada Flight Supplement (CFS) currently indicates that 100LL avgas is not available at the CYZF airport.   Airport management advises that this description of available services is necessary since commercial providers operating from premises on airport property are no longer offering into-wing service for 100LL avgas.    Notwithstanding the information contained in the CFS, 100LL avgas remains available in Yellowknife, both at the CYZF airport and on Back Bay, through advance arrangement with a local off-airport supplier.

General aviation pilots are encouraged to consider the following options when planning flights to and from the Yellowknife area:  (Information current as of June 20, 2025; updates will be posted if circumstances change.)
  • Bulk 100LL avgas for aircraft on floats is available from Ahmic Air and can be pumped into tidy tanks or directly into floatplane fuel tanks at the seasonal floatbase.  Availability is subject to the operating needs of Ahmic Air.  Price varies due to ongoing fluctuations in fuel costs.  Business hours during float season (early June to mid-October) are 9 am to 5 pm daily including weekends and holidays.  Pilots should contact Ahmic Air in advance so as to avoid peak times and minimize impact on charter operations. Coordinates and further details are contained in the Canada Water Aerodrome Supplement under CEN9.
  • Bulk 100LL avgas for aircraft parked in the general aviation parking area at the CYZF airport can be obtained from Ahmic Air by appointment.  Fuel can be pumped directly in aircraft or into jerry cans provided by the pilot.  Availability is limited to a maximum of 600 litres per delivery and is subject to the operating needs of Ahmic Air.  Price varies due to ongoing fluctuations in fuel costs.  Business hours for fueling are 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Thursday or Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm.  Since Ahmic Air operates from its floatbase located off-airport, a callout fee of $150 applies.
  • Pilots operating aircraft with portable fuel transfer capabilities can contact Fuel Flo Petroleum & Logistics at to arrange for 100LL avgas.  Sealed drums can be dropped off at CYZF near the general aviation parking area.  Pilots are encouraged to make arrangements well in advance.

Refer to our advocacy page respecting availability of avgas for a chronology of NWTFA efforts to ensure the continued supply of 100LL avgas for general aviation aircraft in the Yellowknife region.
