PLACES TO FLY: MEANDER LAKE
Meander Lake is located approximately 64 nautical miles east of Yellowknife. The north shore of the lake features a long sandy beach with rocky outcrops at each end. The beach is fairly narrow but provides ample space for a picnic or cookout. The terrain behind the beach was burnt extensively by forest fires during the summer of 2014.
Meander Lake was the site of the Fly-in Picnic hosted by the Northwest Territories Flying Association during the 2015 Midnight Sun Fly In. The beach provided plenty of parking for visiting planes, despite unusually low water levels in 2015, and everyone enjoyed a pleasant afternoon trading stories and eating smokies.
