Fishing Lake is a popular and beautiful destination within reasonable distance of Yellowknife. The large beach at the north end of the lake is the southern terminus of the portage trail around the rapids on the Yellowknife River. As well as drawing fishers in search of arctic grayling and lake trout, this site is used by campers navigating the Yellowknife River by canoe or kayak. Unfortunately, portions of the site have become a bit unsightly in recent years. As frequent users of sites such as Fishing Lake, NWTFA certainly does not wish to be associated with any debris left in the bush. Our organization and members strive for a reputation of responsible use of the wilderness. NWTFA is organizing a clean-up project at Fishing Lake on September 16, 2017 weather permitting. We’ll need crew and available useful load to bring some of the debris back to Yellowknife for disposal. Any members available to assist should contact Hal Logsdon at logsdon@theedge.ca or at 873-5569. |
